Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah successfully defended their Internazionali BNL d’Italia men’s doubles title with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus in Sunday’s final.

It was a 13th team title for the Colombian duo who are enjoying a successful clay season having also lifted the trophy at Barcelona last month.

The No. 3 seeds made light work of their final opponents, dropping just four games as they raced to the title in 58 minutes on a sun-kissed Court Pietrangeli, but they haven’t had it all their own way this week in the Italian capital.

Cabal and Farah survived a nail-biting match tiebreak against Bob and Mike Bryan in the quarter-finals on Friday, battling back from 2-7 down and saving four match points before eventually prevailing 7-6(2) 4-6 16-14. They were also forced to fight back in their semi-final against Lukas Kubot and Marcelo Melo on Saturday evening, recovering from losing the first set to oust the top seeds 2-6 7-6(4) 10-8.

“For me, every time you win a 1000 event, it’s something special. No words to describe it basically. To go back-to-back, it’s even more impressive for our confidence,” said Farah.

“The way I see it, to win any event of the ATP back-to-back is impressive. A 1000 event is even more impressive. It just builds up your confidence. As a team, it shows you the work is paying off.”
