Jo-Wilfried Tsonga hung on to beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in a Centre court thriller.
The no.11 seed looked to be in control of the first set before his Ukrainian challenger came back.
Tsonga made sure he took the first 6-3 with Dolgopolov staging a late comeback that looked to have taken his opponent by surprise.
Dolgopolov then forced a tiebreak in the second set, but Tsonga powered through to claim a 7-6 victory and the match.
In the bottom half of the draw, Tsonga could go on to face Roger Federer if they both manage to progress.
